“A little about me”
Hello, I’m Sam or as most kids at school and birthday parties refer to me as “Tyler’s Mom” because, let’s face it, we do lose our identity when we become Mothers. I even caught myself introducing myself as Tyler’s Mom, totally forgetting I actual have a name, at a school function. I’m a single parent to a little chap (Tyler) who just turned 5 years old.
I decided to start writing about my experiences as a single
mom, just to let you know that you are not alone.
Being a single mom has, and will, never be easy. Don’t get
me wrong I am lucky enough to have my son’s dad still in the picture and he is
a very good father too.
My ‘little’ bean sprout was not exactly planned. After one
accident (literally), I was blessed by the pregnancy Gods with sever vomiting,
cramps and a full on bad attitude before I realised “No, wait…this cant be
early menopause or me becoming a future serial killer” I’m actually pregnant! 5
weeks to be exact when I found out.
Then I though, this was my time to shine… my so called
“calling in life” to be the most perfect, patient, fairy-tale mother! Did I
succeed you may ask… well the answer is “HELL NO!”
Natural birth… attempted… failed.
Breastfeeding… attempted… failed. (I did end up pumping)
Perfect family with the picket white fence… failed.
However… I never gave up. I never stopped loving this
precious little gift that has changed my life in so many ways. This will be my
story and experiences of my ups and downs, dealing with depression and anxiety
but also finding myself again.
I am so blessed to be called “Mom” at the end of the day, and sometimes a “silly old bull” – but that I will get into at another stage.
I will soon be starting an advice column where Moms can
write to me for advice or even just someone to talk to. Motherhood can make you
feel very isolated and sometimes we need our tribe of Mom’s to get through it
Speak soon, Sam
